London 2012 Paralympics: David Weir is Britain’s Goliath
Man and Machine, a documentary by Yann Yannakis Jones on the Paralympian David Weir and his relationship with his wheel chair. It explores how David Weir needs to connect seamlessly with his chair to deliver his ultimate performance. At the same time it shows how the connection between the driver and the car is also central to BMW in delivering the ultimate driving experience.
David Weir is argualbly the best wheelchar racing athlete in the world. Now at the age of 32 Weir has grown in in both presence and raci ng nous since making his big breakthrough with gold medals in both the 800metres and 1500m at his third Games, in Beijing at the age of 29. With world titles over sprints and middle distances demonstrates hes versatility. The 32 year old from sureey has really come into his own since Beijing. Weir was always physically robust, built with the arms and chest of a boxer – indeed, combat sports are his penchant away from athletics, and his brothers boxed – yet it was not until recently that he began to show real maturity, racing tactically rather than just battling it out from the front.
